Bulgaria — home of the Cyrillic alphabet, the Gradeshnitsa Tablets, nine World Heritage sites, and this freak:
Meet Azis, Bulgaria’s foremost gender-bending folk pop singer and failed political candidate, who recently gained notoriety in the gay global arena for his expansion in the wedding tackle department.
Put simply, Azis is a big fat ponce with a huge dong who can’t decide whether he’s Arthur or Martha. As this picture quite clearly displays:
The flouncy Gypsy scarves, the layers of black tuille, the fishnet stockings, the French manicure, the shimmering lip gloss, and the trucker’s singlet. Of course there’s no escaping the conspicuous beer gut and the white beard, both of which are alarmingly offset by the creepy lady eyes.
Despite the drag queen’s short yet cataclysmic foray into the political arena (no one voted for him) it seems Asiz has quite the following on the music front. As he stated himself, “My first record was crap, but then I turned gay and wore the pervert dress and got a new sound.”
Good luck with all that, Azis, or should that be As if.

Perhaps your problem with him stems from the fact that his gender presentation doesn’t allow for an immediate identification with either the male or female gender. Maybe you should consider why your reaction against a person like this is hostile.
That Azis elicits discomfort is more indicative of your own hetero-inspired phobias regarding gender-bent persons and your inability to wrap your head around the idea that perhaps people can shift and play gender into a realm that is neither explicitly male or female.
His music may be kitsch and perhaps not all that great, but, that’ll be the reaction that most in the west will have to any Bulgarian music at all, not just to that of a man who has decided to play in thirds.

Right or wrong, understand that to most Bulgarians he and this type of music (Chalga) is an icon of western ideals that often clashes with the east. The whole greater Balkan area has been going through a cultural revolution for many years now and Chalga music is an extreme part of this. Go to youtube and check some of this Chalga out to see what I mean.

I just heard of Azis, i am very impressed. the music is’nt all the way up to my taste, but the style is “Awff Da Chain!”
i’m proud of his BOLD persona. i’ll go to Bulgaria.
the west is a beacon of freedom to the people of these countries and Azis’ freedom is one of many echoes back.
they’ll love him in San Francisco.
